Following the expiration of her contract with HIM International Music last year, Taiwanese singer-actress Ella Chen decided to strike out on her own. Ella is now signed with a new entertainment company headed by her husband, businessman Alvin Lai.

In a recent interview, the 37-year-old shared that she will be focusing on her acting career this year. “Acting is something that I want to work hard on. I’ve spent so much time being a female star, being an idol singer, (so) I hope to be able to spend more time concentrating on being an actress,”she shared. Ella added that she will not be abandoning her singing career.

Even though the agency that she’s currently signed to is jointly managed by her and her husband, Ella shared that running a company is harder than people think. Even before starting out, the singer-actress hardened her resolve and decided to work with the mindset of “we will not earn money, (the venture) will fail”, so that she would have enough courage in the event that it really happens.

“This is my life, it’s time for me to do something for myself. I’m really happy to have met my other half who’s willing to help me and support me,” Ella said.

Of course, conflict is inevitable when a couple first starts working together. Ella and Alvin once had a huge argument but the singer let on that Alvin usually apologises first. “During this period of time, I’ve learned that no matter what we disagree on, there has to be a conclusion. I don't wish for such issues to impact our relationship. Alvin also will take the initiative to think of a way to solve the issue,” Ella shared.

As for S.H.E’s reunion, Ella said, “The three of us (members Selina Jen, Hebe Tien, and Ella) are extremely positive (about it) and we hope to continue working together. I believe that HIM (International Music) feels the same way. It’s just that both sides are currently at a standstill (with regards to negotiations).”. When asked if the reason for the standstill was monetary issues, Ella replied, “I’m unable to share more details with you.”
