Edison Chen Is Going To Be A Dad
The 36-year-old bad boy is reportedly planning to get married too. Now that's shocking.
For once, Hongkong tabloid-magnet Edison Chen is in the news for a good thing. Well, if you look past the whole child-out-of-wedlock thing. Also, a shotgun marriage to the mother of his child and girlfriend, Chinese top model Shu Pei, might be in the works faster than you can say “double happiness”. According to Apple Daily, Shu Pei is due to give birth next month and first-time dad Edison has already shelved work plans in China to fly back to America to support his girlfriend.
The 36-year-old actor and 26-year-old model has been dating for over a year now. And, it seems the notorious Casanova is serious about this relationship. Last August, he reportedly splashed US$2.85mil (S$4.05mil) on a mansion in Los Angeles, where he co-habits with his bae. In the same month, an eyewitness caught the lovebirds shopping in a baby store in Japan. The actress was also spotted out and about last December in Beijing sporting a baby bump. The couple are reportedly expecting a baby boy. Reports claim that Edison yearns to get married, and is currently making preparations for his wedding so he can become a husband and dad at the same time.
Oh, and in case you forgot, Edison also stood up for his girlfriend last July by attacking Taiwanese supermodel Lin Chiling online in a series of defamatory posts after Chiling’s team allegedly blocked his girlfriend from appearing on Chinese variety show Hey, Muse. Because, if that’s not love, what is, right?

Their romance was confirmed last May when Edison was caught kissing and behaving intimately with Shu Pei, whom reports claimed was still married at that time. Shu Pei had tied the knot with Leigh Gow, general manager of the Huayi Brothers Fashion Group, in 2012. When news of their public PDA-ing broke out, Leigh accused Shu Pei of cheating on him. In an online post, he wrote: “Since when was having an affair something you could commit in broad daylight? Do you need me to give you my blessings even before divorce proceedings have begun?” The model responded by clarifying that she had already signed the separation papers drafted by Leigh’s attorney.
Last November, the model posted a photo of her new short hairdo on Instagram, sparking speculations that it was in preparation of her birth.
Donnie Yen (middle) posted this photo taken with Edison and a friend on his Instagram, captioning it: “Big congrats to little brother @edcee3000 in LA, wish him success and more!” Many have since taken it to mean that Donnie was congratulating Edison on him becoming a dad.
Ohmygawd... Could it be that Edison Chen is finally retiring his playboy act once and for all?
