Eason Chan Reportedly Facing S$12.3mil Penalty For Terminating Contract With Adidas After Xinjiang Cotton Controversy
He’s said to be facing the biggest penalty among celebs who have cut ties with brands for boycotting Xinjiang cotton.
There’s been a rash of celebs that have cut ties with global brands such as Nike, Adidas and H&M following the stand the brands have taken against the alleged use of forced labor in the production of cotton in Xinjiang.

Among the growing number of stars who have said no thank you to these lucrative endorsement deals is Eason Chan, who has terminated his lifetime contract with Adidas.
A Weibo account claiming to have inside information on the contract claimed that the penalty that Eason will have to pay for breaking his contract is 60mil yuan (S$12.3mil), and that amount is believed to be the highest among celebs who have reacted to the Xinjiang cotton boycott.
They reasoned that Eason’s strongly worded statement against the boycott – he said he “is resolute against the stigmatisation of China” – would likely be seen as a unilateral breach of the contract and that the singer will face serious ramifications.

Despite the possibility of having to pay such a huge penalty, Eason could possibly stand to profit even more from this saga. Chinese netizens have sung praises of him, with many saying that they “will support him unconditionally from now on”.
“If he holds a concert, I’ll buy as many tickets as I can and give them out to whoever wants to see him. This is a small way to repay his sacrifice!” said one netizen.
Another netizen added, “Chinese brands are probably lining up for him to sign endorsement deals now. I’ll buy any product that he is the face of, so I hope they offer him a huge amount that will easily cover those penalties”.
