Deanie Ip Once Helped Andy Lau Pay Off A S$7mil Debt

The onscreen bond between Andy Lau, 59, and his godma Deanie Ip, 72, is one of the cinema's greatest gifts to world.

The pair has acted opposite each other numerous times over the past four decades, starting from 1982 TV drama The Emissary, where they played mother and son. There was also the classic 1985 movie The Unwritten Law and its 1988 sequel The Truth, where the Heavenly King starred as a lawyer who has to defend his mother (Deanie), a prostitute accused of killing her wealthy client. Then, of course, there’s 2011’s award-winning A Simple Life, which depicts the touching relationship between a man (Andy) and his elderly housemaid, played by Deanie.

But their real-life bond goes way deeper than their celluloid offerings.
