Daniel Wu’s Dad Dies A Day Before He Turns 93
Instead of feeling heartbroken, the actor chose to celebrate his dad's extraordinary life and the love between his late parents.
Chinese-American actor Daniel Wu, 47, revealed on Instagram yesterday (Mar 24) that his dad George has passed away. The retired engineer would have turned 93 today.
The star, who was raised in California before starting his showbiz career Hongkong, shared a throwback photo of him with his dad, writing: “Happy Birthday Dad! One more day and you would have been 93 but I guess you were in a hurry to join Mom. I can see the two of you together now and that makes me happy. Thank you for always being unapologetically you. Everything I know about being a man, I learned from you. Rest easy Dad. I’ll see you when I’m done.”

Shortly after his first post, Daniel shared another photo, this time of a piece of paper with these words typed out on it: “Dear Danny: I love you very very much. How much do you love me? Have a nice dream. Love, Dad”
There’s a very sweet story to the note, according to Daniel. “In the 80’s my Dad got his first printer and word processing program. I think it was called MSdos? This was his first print out. Always love you Dad!” wrote Daniel.

In the 1950s, the actor’s career-driven father moved from Shanghai to the US and later met his equally career-driven wife in New York, where she was studying.
Greg and Diana would go on to have four kids: Daniel, his two older sisters Greta and Gloria, and his older brother who was killed in a car accident when he was two before Daniel was born.
According to Daniel, his heartbroken parents would not speak about his brother for years. They also became were very protective of Daniel when he was a kid, forbidding him from playing football and all things they felt where he could get hurt.
"And of course, I go into martial arts," said Daniel in a 2018 interview. "And then I'm an action star, where danger happens almost on a daily basis.
