Couple Act Awkwardly On G.E.M.’s Concert Kiss Cam, Netizens Speculate They’re Having An Affair
China’s version of the viral “Coldplay concert couple”?
Kiss cams are supposed to capture cute couple moments.
But sometimes, they end up exposing a little more than expected.
Remember the Coldplay concert scandal that went viral after a man and woman were caught looking way too cosy on the big screen?
Well, netizens think G.E.M.'s concert in Shenzhen may have just produced China's version of it.
The 35-year-old Hong Kong singer is currently on the final leg of her I Am Gloria world tour, performing 12 shows in Shenzhen.
During one of the shows, a kiss cam was panning across couples in the audience, many of whom happily played along when they appeared on the giant screen.
Then the camera landed on this pair.
Instead of going in for a kiss, the man appeared to alert the woman that they were on camera.
She immediately ducked her head to hide from view, while he looked visibly awkward.
Not exactly your typical kiss cam reaction.
The clip quickly went viral, with netizens initially amused by how differently the pair reacted from the other couples shown.
But, well, this is the internet.
Netizens soon went full CSI on them.
They claimed to have identified the woman as beauty influencer Li Ailin, who reportedly has several social media accounts, including one with more than a million followers.
The man was alleged to be an executive at the same company as her.
Then came the biggest allegation: Netizens claimed the two were having an affair and that the man was married to someone else.
The claims have not been independently verified, and neither party appears to have publicly addressed them as of press time.
That hasn't stopped the speculation, of course.
Adding fuel to the fire were claims that posts on several accounts allegedly belonging to Ailin were subsequently wiped, with some pages displaying “No posts available”.
Videos of the kiss cam moment were also reportedly taken down following complaints.
Naturally, netizens couldn't resist comparing the saga to the infamous Coldplay kiss cam scandal.
“Kiss cam are a great invention. Please make them more common. We've gotten so much gossip out of them these past two years,” joked one netizen.
Another claimed their reaction suggested they weren't an ordinary couple.
Others, however, felt people were reading too much into a few seconds of footage.
“Being camera-shy doesn't mean you're guilty of something,” was the general sentiment, with some pointing out that suddenly having your face projected to tens of thousands of people is reason enough to duck.
