Coco Lee Undergoes Surgery For Leg, Says She Must Learn To Walk Again

After decades of living in pain, Mandopop diva Coco Lee has faced her greatest fear and undergone surgery to fix an old injury.
In a lengthy post on Weibo yesterday (Feb 23), the 48-year-old shared that she was born with a defect in her left leg and had a failed surgery to correct it when she was two years old.
The surgery, painful recovery and having to learn to walk again left her traumatised and she has learned to live with the pain… until she couldn’t any longer.
"Today, I have to face the biggest challenge of my life, and also my biggest fear. I have never been afraid of difficulties ['cos] there is a solution to every problem. But this time I'm weak, I've always wanted to avoid it, but now it's inevitable,” she wrote.
Coco said she relied too heavily on her right leg to support herself while singing and dancing on stage and it was by sheer willpower that she managed to do it.
"I remember when I was a child, the doctor said it was impossible for me to dance, so it is a miracle that I have danced for so many years, and I am grateful that I have done so much," she said, adding that she would be in excruciating pain after each rehearsal or concert.
During a rehearsal in October last year, she danced too vigorously, causing her old injury to flare up, and is now unable to live a normal life.
"The pelvis was displaced. Without cartilage to protect the joint, it pressed on the nerve. But there were also miraculous moments too. Though I can't walk, I don’t feel any pain when I dance. Maybe it's because I am the happiest when dancing,” she said.
Despite her fears, she said she will face the surgery and challenges bravely.
"I hope I can return to the stage soon… I have to learn to walk again. I hope everyone will accompany on this difficult journey. I need you even more now,” she said.
