Chinese Woman Forced To Remove Make-Up At Airport After Facial Recognition Failed To Recognise Her

What happens when you pile on make-up so thick that the airport's facial recognition scanner fails to recognise you?

One Chinese woman at a Shanghai airport found out the hard way.

A now-viral video shows the woman wiping off her make-up at the airport after the facial recognition system could not recognise her at immigration with her fully made-up face. Accompanied by a friend, the woman then started taking off her make-up. 

While there's no trace of her full make-up look in the video, viewers got an idea of what it was from comments from her friend who was with her.

“Wipe everything off until you look like your passport photo. Why would you do your make-up like that? You are asking for trouble,” her friend snapped.

Some netizens jumped to the woman's defence and wondered if the facial recognition scanners were just outdated.

“It’s not like she was able to walk around with a filter on in real life, right?” one commented.

Others sympathised with the woman and called out her friend.

“She was already wiping her make up off and embarrassed enough. There was no need for you to keep going on like some naggy boomer.”

Ouch.
