No one can predict what will be the next big trending topic on the Internet. Take today, for example. Out of the blue, Chinese supermodel Liu Wen’s waistline became of one Weibo’s most-searched and talked-about topics.
It all started yesterday (Oct 15) when the 31-year-old uploaded a series of photos where she’s looking gorgeous (not that she is ever not gorgeous) while frolicking in the woods.

Feeling waist-ed
It was business as usual for Liu Wen — she even included a mandatory pensive caption “The wind, is so silent!” — but then one of the pics caught the eye of netizens. In the photo, the model is seen from the back raising her arms, which caused her knitted sweater to casually expose her enviable and super slim waistline.
Her Weibo was then swamped with comments like, “Is your waist for real?”, “Your waist is the same size as my thigh!” and “This is what a waist should look like, I’m crying.” By the end of the day, the topic ‘Liu Wen’s Waist' was discussed and shared over 300 million times on Weibo.

We would be showing off our midriffs all the time too if we had that waist
While the model has yet to comment on being a trending topic, Weibo was soon flooded with more pics of Liu Wen’s waist, along with hyperbolic descriptions like “ant waist”, “palm-sized waist” and ‘A4-waist”, which is a reference to the 2016 online craze wherewomen held up pieces of A4 (or 8.3-inch wide) paper next to bodies to show how tiny their waists are. Thankfully, that extremely worrying trend disappeared faster than empty seats on the MRT during peak hour.

She's an Angel
The topic has also renewed the public’s interest in Liu Wen, who first shot to international fame in 2009 as Victoria’s Secret first Chinese Angel. In 2012, the New York Times called her China’s first bona fide supermodel and in 2017, she was the eighth highest-paid model in the world according to Forbes magazine.

Liu Wen and Siwon
She has also ventured into acting and television. In 2015, she starred with Korean star Choi Siwon in Chinese variety show We Are In Love, where celebrities ‘date’ one another. It was rumoured that they ended up being a couple in real life though they may not even be friends anymore as they both unfollowed each other on Weibo in March this year.
