Chinese Suona Performer Plays Instrument Without Taking A Breath For 55 Seconds At New Year’s Concert

How long can you hold your breath?

For celebrated suona — a traditional Chinese  pipe-likemusical instrument — performer Zhang Qianyan, it seems she is able to continuously play her signature tune ‘100 Birds Pay Homage to the Phoenix’ without taking a breath for an impressive 55 seconds.

Qianyan, who is a professor at the China Conservatory of Music, was performing at the Shandong Satellite TV’s New Year Symphony Concert with the China Symphony Orchestra and Chorus backing her.

Naturally, the cameras panned to the flabbergasted audience who couldn’t believe what they were seeing.

After the concert aired, netizens took her bit and hilariously added a timer across the clip.

55 seconds is no mean feat.
She must be thinking, "How long can she go on for?"

Many took to the comments section writing how they were impressed by her skills.

“Such an amazing performance,” wrote one while another said, “Most deserving of a Golden Bell winner” referring to the distinguished award she won when she was only 20.
