A Chinese Influencer Couple Paid Wang Leehom, Jackie Chan & G.E.M To Sing At Their $13.7mil Wedding
Just how much do online personalities in China earn?

Remember that event where Jackie Chan got kicked by a little monk and his shocked reaction became China’s new favourite gif? Well, what everyone had thought was a concert, since it was held at Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Stadium and had featured megastars like Jackie, Wang Leehom, G.E.M, Cecilia Cheung and Malaysian singer Michael Wong of Guang Liang Ping Guan fame, turned out to be a 70mil yuan (S$13.7mil) wedding between two Chinese influencers.

The wedding couple
According to Chinese entertainment website ifeng.com, the super wealthy groom is 29-year-old Xing Ba who made his name (and money) selling stuff on WeChat. His bride is the equally successful 33-year-old Chu Rui Xue who had an online shop on Taobao before becoming a web singer. She eventually created her own make-up brand which is said to be immensely popular online.

In one of his video updates, Xing Ba had revealed that for his wedding-concert, the artistes’ fees alone amounted to a whopping 50mil yuan (S$9.8mil). “It would at most cost about 1.2mil yuan (S$235K) to invite a star to perform, but to get Jackie Chan, it cost me 6.7mil yuan (S$1.3mil),” Xing Ba divulged. It’s said that 42 stars were invited in total, including the bride's idol Cecilia Cheung.

That’s not all. For the couple’s after party — ’cos, you know, a concert featuring some of Asia’s biggest stars wasn’t enough — Xing Ba had booked out an entire club to the very lovely tune of 1mil yuan (S$196K).

Yup, that's their wedding venue
But before you can say that it’s not economical to throw a 70mil yuan wedding, here’s the thing: Right at the end of his wedding-concert, which was broadcasted live on his channel, the financially-savvy Xing Ba immediately opened his online shop for business again. And because of the sheer number of people who ended up browsing his store after tuning in, Xing Ba was said to have made back what he had spent on his wedding-concert in double quick time. “I earned one hundred million in one hour,” he was said to have boasted. So instead of losing money from the extravaganza, the couple actually earned 30mil yuan. That’s 5.9 million Singapore dollars. Now, how many ang pows is that?
