Chinese Actress Chen Duling Rumoured To Have Died The Same Way Yu Menglong Did & Replaced By An "Imposter"
Chinese actor Yu Menglong passed away after a fatal fall on September 11. Although his death was officially ruled an accident, conspiracy theories continue to circulate online, with many believing he was killed.
New rumours surrounding another celebrity suffering a similar fate have emerged. People are now claiming that Chinese actress Chen Duling, 32, has suffered the same fate as the late actor, and that she was killed and replaced by a "fake person", or an imposter, if you will.
The rumours first started going viral on Chinese site Bilibli, with netizens sharing recorded clips of Duling's birthday livestream.
They analysed the video frame by frame, and claimed the "fake" was wearing a silicone mask, and that her facial features and hands looked different. Some also said faint crying sounds were heard during the stream.
These crumbs of "evidence" supposedly proved that the real Chen Duling had been "captured and replaced".
The chatter rapidly spread to Weibo and other Chinese social media sites, with netizens making even more comparison videos between "the real Chen Duling" and her "imposter". Those who trust in the rumours have urged others to report the matter to the police.
However, a larger group of netizens have dismissed the claims as baseless. They labelled them "cult-like rumours", "conspiracy theories", with a number even condemning others for spreading "nonsense".
Many argued that the differences in Duling's appearance or demeanor were due to her adapting to different acting roles, not because she had been "replaced". She was simply doing her job as an actress, they said.
"It's scary to live in a society with people who actually believe this," wrote one commenter.
Well, considering how Yu Menglong's case had (unofficially) unfolded, can we really blame these netizens for being extra paranoid?
