Chinese Actor Wang Zijian Reveals He Was Abused By MMA Champ Ex-Wife; Says He Was Slapped 500 Times
His ex-wife also burned him with cigarette butts.
Chinese actor Wang Zijian has shared his story of domestic violence to encourage victims to seek help.
Zijian became a household name in China after hosting popular variety show Tonight 80’s Talk Show, however, he suddenly disappeared from the spotlight for two years. It was only recently that he made a comeback on acting competition I Am the Actor.

During a recent appearance on the show, the 36-year-old opened up about the abuse he suffered at the hands of his ex-wife, a mixed martial arts (MMA) champ, and how he constantly lived in fear.
Zijian recalled one of the incidents when he was slapped 500 times. Other abuse he suffered include being burned with cigarette butts six times and was also forced to kneel on his wife’s ear studs.
He was often covered with bruises and things got so bad that he had to be taken to the hospital for treatment on eight occasions.
The abuse didn’t just affect him physically, but mentally as well, and as a result, he lost 20kg over the years.
From abuse to depression
However, things didn’t improve after their divorce. Zijian learned that all his property had been transferred to his ex-wife. The trauma of the abuse, coupled by his financial woes, caused him to suffer severe depression.
He tried cutting off contact with the world, but fortunately with the support of his family and friends, as well as medication, he slowly overcame the darkest period of his life.
Zijian went on to encourage those who are going through a similar situation to get help: “Depression can be cured. If I can do it, so can you.”
