Japanese actress Chie Tanaka (田中千絵), 40, who is best known for starring in 2008's Cape No. 7, Taiwan’s second highest-grossing film of all time, recently took to Facebook to open up about her health struggles.

Chie, who has been living in Taiwan since 2006, revealed that she suffers from something called “meteorological disease”.

She found out that she had the illness after watching a Japanese programme, in which symptoms of the condition were discussed.

According to the show, those with the illness suffer from headaches, dizziness, vomiting and bad moods when the weather is unstable.

“In all honestly, I also suffer from this disease. Of late, I’ve been feeling sick quite often and am unable to head outside for a jog. My mood has more or less been affected,” wrote Chie.

Chie also said that she always felt ill during rainy or cloudy days, adding that “it’s probably due to the lowering of air pressure.”

Through the show, Chie found out that such symptoms were classified as a sickness and that hospitals in Japan have outpatient clinics that specialise in the illness.

If this is your first time hearing of this "meteorological disease", don’t worry 'cos it’s our first time too.

Chie also wrote that after doing some research online, she found out that women are more susceptible to this illness, especially those who are on their periods.

“Because when humidity levels and air pressures are unstable, it affects the body’s self-regulating functions, which is needed to balance female hormones. So those who are more sensitive will be easily affected by the meteorological disease,” she explained.

On the show, a girl afflicted with the disease recalled how she often felt unwell when the weather was changing but could not explain why she was feeling the way she did. Her behaviour resulted in her drifting apart from her friends and things only improved after she found out the cause for it.

Chie urged netizens to be more empathetic and tolerant towards those who suffer from the disease before telling her followers that she hopes they “all live through the rainy season”.
