Charmaine Sheh Reveals The Most Embarrassing Piece Of Work In Her 28-Year Career: "Even I Want To Smack Myself'
Every celebrity has at least one piece of work they wish they could erase from everyone’s memory.
Charmaine Sheh is no exception.
In a recent episode of TVB talk show Yi Zhou Xing Xing, the 50-year-old actress was asked: “If there were a button that could wipe out your ‘dark history’ in showbiz — like a performance or a show — which would you choose?”
Charmaine, who burst into laughter, instantly had an answer.
“Wu La La," she mumbled, chuckling. Her answer left her The Queen Of News 2 co-star Bosco Wong, who was on the show with her, as well as host Albert Au, completely bemused.
The actress, still laughing, elaborated that 'Wu La La' is actually a nursery song she sang many years ago.
When a stunned Bosco challenged: "You had a nursery song?", Charmaine even went into defensive mode.
"I was number one, okay? I topped the charts for Kids’ Song Hits," she declared before erupting into cackles once more.
Charmaine explained that 'Wu La La' was the theme song for a cartoon version of 2003 hit K-drama Jewel In The Palace, which is why she donned a traditional Korean outfit in the music video.
“I also had a centre-parted hairstyle — even I want to smack myself [when I look at it],” she snickered. “I already have to act in dramas, and I was made to do things like this too."
So how did Charmaine react when she first knew she had to perform the song?
"Exactly the same reaction as we're having now, I was also laughing at it back then. I questioned: 'Will this work?' and they replied: 'Just go!'," she chuckled.
"They just combed my hair into a centre-parted bun, gave me the outfit and told me to move along," laughed the actress.
