In March, Taiwanese host Chang Fei and singer Fei Yu-ching made headlines when they threatened to cut off all ties with their elder sister, former singer-actress Jenny Fei, after she racked up NT$30 million (S$1.4 mil) in debts.

When the 70-year-year left showbiz over 30 years ago, she was ordained as a Buddhist monk and became known as Venerable Heng Shu. To make ends meet, she dabbled in the diamond trade and eventually ended up borrowing money from more than 20 loan sharks.
