Hongkong is experiencing a third wave of COVID-19 infections, which has led to three rounds of rule-tightening in as many weeks by the administration. Masks are now required in outdoor areas, with exemptions only granted to those with medical reasons and public gatherings of more than two people who are not from the same household are now prohibited.

These new rules are why Liza Wang and Carina Lau have come under fire from netizens who have taken issue with their recent IG posts.

One of Carina’s photos shows her on a hiking trip with five other friends. Netizens pointed out that if the pic was taken after the new measures were put in place, Carina would have broken two rules — for not wearing a mask in public, and for gathering with more than two people, who are clearly not from her household.
