Cyndi WangRemember Cyndi Wang? The Taiwanese pop idol from the early noughties whose last claim to fame was when she was named as the third party behind the very public break-up between Sonia Sui and actor Yao Yuanhao back in 2012. Well, the 34-year-old is back in the news again, this time for a far more superficial, but no less unpalatable, reason. While Cyndi’s been plagued with rumours that she’s undergone plastic surgery for years now, the allegations have been given a, um, lift, with a recent appearance she made on a Taiwanese variety show. Viewers were shocked by how unrecognisable Cyndi’s features are now, especially her nose, which they likened to Voldemort's. Now that’s Riddikulus-ly funny.
Daniel ChanBack in the ’90s, Daniel, with his floppy centre-parted hair and puppy dog eyes, was a bona fide heartthrob whose popularity rivalled that of the Heavenly Kings. He became the talk of the town recently when netizens noted how different he looked in an online interview he gave. His double eyelids are a lot deeper, giving his once-lively looking peepers a sort of doll-like, vacant quality. His eyebrows are also thicker and jet-black like a K-popstar’s and more well-drawn than your mum’s at a wedding dinner. His skin is also devoid of lines, lines you would expect to see on a 41-year-old man, lines that would have given his face some character instead of this waxy, embalm-y quality it now has. Well, Daniel might not look anything like he used to, but at least he still has a head full of thick, lustrous hair. That has got to be real right?

Bugis Street Level 2 may no longer feel quite as much like a ghost town. Months after we visited the upper floor following reports of shuttered shops and sparse foot traffic, we returned on a Friday afternoon to see whether things had changed. This time, Level 2 had noticeably more people around, from teenagers and tourists to older shoppers. More importantly, shoppers were actually interacting with the stalls, trying things on and making purchases, rather than simply browsing and walking through. There are still plenty of shuttered units, and Level 2 remains much quieter than the ever-busy ground floor, but the atmosphere felt noticeably livelier during our visit. Bugis Street is also hosting its “Somewhere @ Bugis Street” weekend events as part of its ongoing efforts to bring more activity to the area.
