Chinese Reality Show, Which Sees Celebs Roughing It Out In The Wild, Accused Of Being Fake After Its Cast Was Snapped Returning To A Hotel At Night

While Camping Life's production team has rubbished the allegations, the whistleblower, a paparazzo, has doubled down on his claims.

Chinese variety show Camping Life, which sees celebrities going on camping adventures around China, recently started filming its second season that takes place in Hainan Province.

The main cast members from Season 1, Hong Kong singer William Chan, 37, and Chinese actor Yang Di, 36, have also returned for the new season, which is slated to air in May.

The draw of the show is seeing the stars roughing it out in the great outdoors, and part of the package includes them sleeping in tents for the entire duration. We mean, that's the whole basis of camping right?

A Chinese reporter claims that the celebrities actually live in hotels while filming

On Thursday (Mar 23), a Chinese reporter by the name of 'Dong Gua Gua' shared a series of photos on his Weibo, claiming that he'd caught the cast of Camping Life 2 returning to their hotels after filming.

In his photos, he wrote that William and fellow castmate Wei Daxun were "going back to the hotel", and asserted that the stars in the show "do not actually live in tents".

However, the production team of Camping Life 2 quickly took to their Weibo to rubbish Dong Gua Gua's accusations, calling it a case of "malicious editing."

"During the filming of Camping Life 2, all guests stayed overnight in the tents and there were no exceptions," they insisted.

A chat history shared by the production crew

The crew also shared a conversation from their production group chat, which showed that the staff took turns to watch over the artistes who were sleeping in the tents, with filming resuming once they wake up.

But Dong Gua Gua did not buy it.

In response to the production team, Dong Gua Gua shared a new post insisting that he did not "maliciously edit" the photos.

He also added that "the weather that night was not exceptionally bad either," alluding that there was no reason for the cast members to be going to a hotel.

Many netizens have since remarked that they won't be surprised if Dong Gua Gua's claims are true as they know that many reality programmes are indeed just "for show".

On the other hand, some loyal supporters of Camping Life 2 argued that the stars probably went to the hotel just to clean themselves up.
