BIGBANG’s T.O.P thanks fans after military discharge

BIGBANG’s T.O.P was discharged from the military last Saturday (Jul 6), after completing his mandatory military service.

The rapper had enlisted as a military policeman in February 2017. In June that year, he was investigated and later charged with using marijuana four times in October 2016. He was sentenced to a 24-month probation period, and would have served a 10-month jail term if he had violated his probation. He had also been fined KRW12,000 (approximately S$14).

As the jail term that T.O.P was sentenced to was less than 18 months, he did not have to re-enlist for his mandatory military duty again. However, he was dismissed from his previous post as a military policeman. The 31-year-old resumed service as a public service worker in January last year.

Though he had expressed his desire to have a quiet discharge, a large number of fans showed up at his workplace on the last day of his service to welcome him back. After he ended his work for the day and was officially discharged from his military service, T.O.P took the time to meet the fans who had gathered to welcome him back, shaking their hands and bowing to them in gratitude.

The next day, he uploaded a post on his Instagram, posting pictures from the previous day. In his caption, which was written entirely in English, he thanked his fans for coming down, and promised to reflect on his past behaviour.

"Even though I am not proud of myself, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the fans who made time and efforts to share this moment with me. I will make sure to reflect on my self and repay the hurts and disappointments I caused to you. Again, thank you... Until I see you again.. love, T.O.P. (sic)” his caption read.
