Chen Tianwen makes surprise appearance as “Mr. Unbelievable”
Local actor Chen Tianwen, who made international headlines (including Apple Daily, TIME and Huffington Post) for the Spouse For House 2 music video “Unbelievable” last week, appeared at Star Awards 2015 Show 1 for a special performance and to present the Social Media Award.
While speaking to reporters backstage, Tianwen shared that he is very surprised and flattered by the attention which “Unbelievable” has brought him. The actor also let on that more people are approaching him for photos on the streets these days. “Everyone calls me ‘unbelievable’. My friends would ask me to sing “Unbelievable” and “Sandcastle in my Heart” for them too,” he laughed.
Should Tianwen be invited to perform for commercial events or lunar seventh month getai, the father-to-be is more than willing to accept the offer as he needs to “earn more milk powder money”.
Tianwen may have looked like a natural comedian in the kitschy video, but he admitted that “being funny” is, in fact, a challenge for him.
“It’s not so easy to act in a comedy. You need to make viewers think that something is funny and real at the same time, so you often have to use a simple approach in performing,” he explained. “When other people laugh and you don’t, that’s the essence [of comedy]. It’s easier said than done.”
As compared to “Unbelievable”, the response to “Sandcastle in my Heart” has paled in comparison. Tianwen, who personally prefers “Unbelievable” because the first few lines remind him of Hokkien phrases and classic Chinese oldies, pointed out that though the rhythm of “Sandcastle in my Heart” is slower, its sentimental value is higher.
