Music reality talent searches that aim to create the next big idol group have been all the rage in China in recent years. So it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that viewers might be getting tired of the same old formula, which involves young hopefuls vying for their shot at superstardom.
Recently, in what is presumed to be a bid to combat audience fatigue, Chinese online platform Mango TV announced that they are coming up with a brand new kind of talent search.
Their game plan? Instead of featuring fresh-faced newcomers in their late teens and twenties, they are looking to form a girl — um, woman? — group made up of established celebs aged 30 and above. Quite the anomaly in a world where female entertainers have a notoriously short shelf life.
