Huawei Heiress Annabel Yao, 25, Gifted The Cast And Crew Of Her New Drama With A New Huawei Phone Each

Chinese star Annabel Yao, 25, is best known for being the younger daughter of Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei.

The singer-actress made her showbiz debut last year, after graduating from Harvard University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science in 2020.

Since then, the young heiress has been trying to make a name for herself. 

It hasn't been easy for Annabel, who is often accused by naysayers that she's just “depending on her father” for success.

Her debut single was harshly criticised by netizens, with some comparing her singing to a "wailing ghost". 

Her participation in the fifth season of Chinese reality programme, Chinese Restaurant, which featured celebs like Huang Xiaoming and Ning Jing running a, well, Chinese restaurant in 2021, was also met with eyerolls from jealous netizens.

Thankfully, she managed to win over audiences with her diligent and humble attitude.

It appears that public opinion of Annabel has shifted and more people have started to recognise her as a talented individual in spite of her privileged background. 

Last year, Annabel starred in The Water Murmurs, which won Best Short Film at the Cannes Film Festival.

More recently, Annabel can be seen in new drama series Meet Yourself (去有风的地方), which also stars Liu Yifei and Li Xian.

In the drama, Annabel plays a stall owner, and has received rave reviews for her “natural” acting skills.

Audiences also appreciated how she “did not try too hard to overshadow the lead characters” with her performance.

According to reports, Annabel gifted each member of the cast and crew of Meet Yourself with a Huawei phone each.

The phones were said to have appeared in numerous scenes in the drama, and netizens have praised her for "finding the right way to invest and promote” the brand.

Annabel was also given the thumbs up for “creating a win-win situation” for both her father’s company and the production.
