Anita Mui's 97-Year-Old Mum Denies Rumours That She’s Critically Ill

When contacted by Apple Daily, the sprightly Mama Mui also brushed off the rumours, saying: "It’s gastric cramps. I’ve had it before. The doctor told me to rest for two days and take medication," she said, adding that the pain was so severe that she had to be hospitalised for two days.

While she experiences cramps every once in a while, the pain this time was much sharper and required injections to help her relax.

Fortunately she is feeling much better now and has no other ailments.

Anita’s family has a history of cancer. Anita passed away in 2003 due to complications from cervical cancer. Her sister, Ann Mui, and her brother Mui Tak Ming, died from womb and throat cancer in 2000 and 2015 respectively.

When Anita passed away at age 40, she set up a will and trust fund to manage her estate, which was estimated to be about HK$100mil (about S$18mil).

Anita’s mum would receive HK$70,000 (S$12,000) monthly from the trust fund. The pop diva also set aside funds to provide for the education expenses of her four nieces and nephews.

However, Anita's mum and the singer's eldest brother Mui Kai Ming tried to overturn the validity of the will, claiming that the late singer was not of sound mind when she wrote it.

In 2012, Mama Mui was declared a bankrupt after racking up a legal bill of HK$6mil (S$1mil).

Anita’s will stipulates that after her mother dies, the money from her trust fund will go to the New Horizon Buddhist Association.
