Workers On Angela Chang's China Concert Tour Go On Strike Over Allegedly Unpaid Wages
In a statement, IMC Asia said the salary dispute was between the workers and their direct supervisor, and was not related to the singer personally.
Update: IMC Group Asia (Singapore) Pte Ltd, the producer of Taiwanese singer Angela Chang’s Player concert tour, has responded to claims that workers involved in the tour in China were not paid.
In a statement, IMC said the salary dispute was between the workers and their direct supervisor, and was not related to Angela personally.
According to IMC, the organisers of each concert had paid all amounts due under the service contracts signed with the workers’ supervisor, adding that the contract terms were “fair and reasonable”.
The company said the dispute therefore did not involve the concert organisers, IMC or Angela, and called claims linking the singer to the salary issue “false and misleading”.
IMC also said the organisers had verified that the workers had since received their wages, and that the matter was now concluded.
The response comes after videos circulated on Chinese social media purportedly showing a group of stage construction workers protesting over allegedly unpaid wages.
The incident reportedly took place on September 13, ahead of Angela’s concert in Huangshi, Hubei province.
According to reports, the workers claimed they had been involved in building stages for Angela’s concerts but had yet to receive payment for work done on at least four shows.
They reportedly took action after the wages remained outstanding, and called on those responsible for the concerts, including Angela’s team, to help resolve the dispute.
IMC, however, said the workers were not directly employed or paid by Angela or the concert organisers.
