Andy Lau might need months to recover from injury

Hong Kong actor Andy Lau got into an accident when a horse lost control, threw him off and trampled on his back while filming in Thailand on Tuesday (Jan 17). The actor fractured his pelvic bone and was sent home to Hong Kong yesterday (Jan 19) on a medical flight in the company of his wife, Carol Chu.

He was sent to the hospital upon arrival, and was found to have also injured his spine in addition to the fracture at his pelvic bone. It was said that although the 55 year-old actor will not be undergoing surgery, he requires painkillers and at least three months for his wounds to recover, before starting on physiotherapy.

However, Andy reportedly rejected the doctor’s suggestion to be in a cast and requested to be discharged before Chinese New Year next week, because he did not want to spend the festive weekend in the hospital.

According to information from an insider, the actor will be seeking traditional Chinese medicine treatment after he is discharged, and will only return to work six months from now.

The actor will not be able to return to Malaysia, his wife’s hometown this Chinese New Year due to his injury, and he will also not be able to attend promotional activities for his upcoming movie, Shock Wave, in April. His year-end concert tour will also feature lesser dance segments or complicated choreography to prevent any aggravation to his injury.
