Aloysius Pang’s Death Was Due To Lapses By The Actor And Two Other Servicemen

A Committee of Inquiry (COI) has found that the training accident that caused the death of actor Aloysius Pang was “due to lapses by Pang and two other serviceman”. On January 19, Aloysius, who was on reservist training in New Zealand, was inside a Singapore Self-Propelled Howitzer (SSPH) with a gun detachment commander as well as a technician when he was crushed between the gun barrel and cabin. He passed away on January 24 from a severe infection arising from his serious chest and abdominal injuries and Aloysius's tragic death would spark a nationwide outpouring of grief.

According to the committee, there was “no evidence that the accident involved foul play or was caused by deliberate acts” and that the cause of the accident was that the gun barrel had been lowered without “ensuring that everyone was in their safe positions”.
