Son of Alan Tam Is a Tech High-Flier In Canada; Reportedly Earns Over 6-Figures a Year

Cantopop legend Alan Tam, 75, has been married to Sally Yeung since 1981. He also shares a son, Howard Tam, with longtime companion Wendy Chu, whom he met in 1991 and with whom he has maintained a relationship while remaining married.

While Alan’s personal life has long drawn public attention, recent focus has shifted to his son Howard, who, at 32, has carved out an impressive career of his own.

According to Hong Kong magazine East Week, Howard is currently based in Vancouver, Canada, where he is building a thriving career in the tech innovation sector. He is now a senior software engineer at a Web3 startup, working on the development of digital wallets and other secure tools for online transactions.

Howard reportedly showed strong academic promise from a young age. Beyond inheriting his father’s musical talent, he also excelled academically. At just 22, he earned a master’s degree in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford, before pursuing further studies at Princeton University in the United States.

After completing his education, Howard received offers from several tech firms and eventually joined Canadian venture studio Axiom Zen as an engineer.

There, he played a key role in developing CryptoKitties, the world’s first NFT-based game built on the Ethereum blockchain. The game quickly gained global attention and, at its peak, accounted for more than 16% of all transactions on the Ethereum network.

Since then, Howard has continued to notch major milestones in his career. His annual salary is said to have long surpassed HKD1 million (S$165,000).

He has reportedly worked at four tech companies, including Amazon, and has also founded his own startup, where he continues to gain hands-on experience in the industry.

Despite living in different countries, Howard maintains a close relationship with his father. Alan frequently travels to Canada to visit him, and the two stay connected through regular video calls.

Alan has publicly expressed pride in his son’s accomplishments, but says he has never interfered in Howard’s career path — choosing instead to give him the freedom to make his own decisions in life.
