K-DRAMA: The Legend of the Blue Sea

What went down: Lee Min Ho’s skilled conman character tries to teach Jeon Ji Hyun’s mermaid (think of it as a Korean version of Tom Hanks’ Splash) to drink but ends up getting sloshed instead. He then drunk-dials Ji Hyun who is sitting opposite him. When she gets up to take her phone, he orders her to stay put before complaining about her not answering calls. Tipsy, he hugs her and tells her not to leave. She then concludes that alcohol is the best thing ever.

Love K-onfession: “Despite our differences, I won’t leave you.”

We say: Sure, the scene is as sweet as a bowl of bingsu. But it was also ruined by (no, not his hideous green sweater) but the actor’s sub-par stab at acting drunk.

K-DRAMA: Hyde, Jekyll, Me

What went down: Rich man’s son Hyun Bin enlists the help of two hand puppets — one boy, one girl — to convey his ‘it’s complicated’ emotions to Han Ji Min’s circus master. Ji Min then follows suit and talks through her puppet. Suddenly, Hyun Bin moves his puppet forward to plant a kiss on the girl puppet before swooping in for the real deal...

Love K-onfession: None. They let their fingers do the talking.

We say: It’s not often you see a K-onfession so lacking in words. But this made us laugh as much as it tugged at our heart strings.

K-DRAMA: Descendants of The Sun

What went down: Following a whirlwind romance, doctor without borders Song Hye Kyo decides she cannot deal with the uncertainty of being with Song Joong Ki’s army captain and calls it quits. Not that that’s going to stop SJK from showering her with cheesy love lines and stealing kisses.

Love K-onfession: “Should I confess my love or should I apologise for kissing you without your permission?”

We say: So corny, so cringe-y… so good. Even the actress herself has admitted that that one-liner set her heart a-flutter. Hey, if it works for Song Hye Kyo, it’s good enough for the rest of us.

K-DRAMA: My Love from Another Star

What went down: The seemingly doomed romance between Kim Soo Hyun’s 400-year-old alien and Jeon Ji Hyun’s superstar culminated in this unforgettable scene where Soo Hyun uses his powers to make a fuming Ji Hyun fly into his arms, before planting a wet one on her.

Love K-onfession: On (fighting against) their star-crossed destiny: “This is the most selfish act I’ve done to you.”

We say: This is the most bizarrely romantic thing we’ve ever seen.

K-DRAMA: The King 2 Hearts

What went down: Spoiler alert! Following plucky princess Lee Jae Ha’s confession to Eun Shi Kyung’s fiercely-loyal Royal Guard (“The world’s most dull and boring man... I like you.”), she learns towards the end of the drama that he too was in love with her when she watches a recording of his declaration of love that was shot before his tragic death in the line of duty.

Love K-onfession: “I will come back and tell you personally that I love you.” Only that he won’t. Or rather, can’t. Watch this with a Kleenex in hand.

We say: Call us old-fashioned, but the fact that Shi Kyung’s heart-breaking confession was recorded on a VHS tape makes us miss those pre-emoji days.

K-DRAMA: Coffee Prince

What went down: Gong Yoo’s reformed womaniser falls in love with a cross-dressing Yoon Eun Hye, thinking she’s a guy. Unlike other K-dramas where there’s the strategically-timed “Oh, I’m actually a girl!” reveal, the pair actually go steady before the cat is let out of the bag. Possibly the most progressive K-drama ever.

Love K-onfession: “I like you. Whether you’re a man or an alien, I don’t care anymore.”

We say: Alien? Hmmm, throw in Kim Soo Hyun’s character from My Love from Another Star then we’ll have a real love triangle.

DRAMA: Secret Garden

What went down: In the K-version of Freaky Friday, Hyun Bin’s cocky CEO switches bodies with Ha Ji Won’s tomboyish stuntwoman. But even before the switcheroo, sparks fly. In this much-talked-about scene, Ji Won is holding Hyun Bin’s feet while he does sit-ups. And as he gazes intently at her, he spouts this now-classic line.

Love K-onfession: “When did you become so pretty? Last year?”

We say: When were PE lessons ever this exciting? The only heart palpitations we got were from doing laps around the track.
