Hongkong actress Myolie Wu, who recently lamented about not being able to land lead roles in China, seems to be finally seeing her fortunes rise after winning Chinese acting reality competition Everybody Stand By 2.

The 41-year-old, who is said to be more than six months pregnant now, is rumoured to be performing in CCTV’s Chinese New Year eve special, Spring Festival Gala, after she was spotted heading to the CCTV Headquarters in Beijing yesterday (Jan 31).

Dubbed “China’s Super Bowl”, the show is not only the country’s most-watched TV show, it's also the world's most-watched show, so performing in it is a really prestigious gig.

Months after we visited the upper floor following reports of shuttered shops and sparse foot traffic, we returned on a Friday afternoon to see whether things had changed. This time, Level 2 had noticeably more people around, from teenagers and tourists to older shoppers. More importantly, shoppers were actually interacting with the stalls, trying things on and making purchases, rather than simply browsing and walking through. There are still plenty of shuttered units, and Level 2 remains much quieter than the ever-busy ground floor, but the atmosphere felt noticeably livelier during our visit. Bugis Street is also hosting its “Somewhere @ Bugis Street” weekend events as part of its ongoing efforts to bring more activity to the area.
