24-Year-Old Korean Actor Lee Ji Han Of Produce 101 Fame Killed In Itaewon Halloween Stampede
Korean actor Lee Ji Han, who found fame competing on the second season of reality talent show Produce 101, died in a stampede at a Halloween celebration at Seoul’s nightlife district of Itaewon on Saturday night (Oct 29). He was 24.
At least 154 people, mostly teens and young adults in their 20s, were killed in a crush when a huge crowd surged into an alley in the nightlife area.
Ji Han’s friends and fellow Produce 101 castmates Park Hee Seok, Kim Do Hyun, and Cho Jin Hyun took to Instagram Stories to reveal the tragic news and to mourn his passing.
They wrote: “Ji Han has left this world and gone to a comfortable place. We ask that you say goodbye to him on his final path.”
Ji Han’s agency 935 Entertainment confirmed his passing in a statement yesterday, saying: “Actor Lee Ji Han, who is a part of our precious family, left our side and became a star in the sky.
“We send our deepest condolences to his surviving family, who are deeply saddened by the sudden tragic news, and those who have loved Lee and mourn his death. We still remember Lee, who always had a big smile and greeted people with energy. He was a bright and pure person, and we cannot believe that we will no longer see him.”
His funeral will be held tomorrow.
Ji Han got his start in showbiz when he participated in singing competition Produce 101 in 2017, before going into acting and modelling.
In 2019, he starred in web drama Today Was Another Nam Hyun Day.
