Though other stars were called out, it was the Pursuit of Jade actor's inaudible two-word sign-off that really got people talking.

Zhang Linghe Among 13 Artistes Accused Of Lip-Syncing At Macau Gala

When a gala promises fully live vocals, you can bet people are going to be listening very, very closely.

But perhaps, a little too closely?

The 2026 Greater Bay Area Rising Moon Film and Music Gala was held in Macau on September 20, with more than 100 actors and singers taking to the stage.

And after the show, netizens apparently had some notes.

A supposed list of 13 artistes suspected of lip-syncing began circulating online, with names including Zhang Linghe, Ouyang Nana, Ming Dao and Jeannie Hsieh.

The full list compiled by netizens also included Ma Li, Zhang Ruoyun, Jessie Chiang, Yan Ni, Peng Yuchang, Oho Ou, Bai Baihe, Huang Xuan and Meng Ziyi.

To be clear, these are online allegations and here is no confirmation that any of the 13 artistes actually lip-synced.

But among all those names, Pursuit of Jade star Zhang Linghe found himself attracting considerably more attention than the rest.

And it all came down to two words. Nobody heard Linghe say "thank you"

The Pursuit of Jade star performed his debut single ‘Say Hi To You’ with Ouyang Nana at the gala.

The performance appeared to go smoothly, then the song ended, with Linghe saying "thank you" to the audience.

Except nobody could hear him. Yikes.

Shortly afterwards, "Zhang Linghe lip-syncing" reportedly shot to No. 1 on Weibo's entertainment trending chart.

Some viewers suspected his vocals during the performance had been pre-recorded, only for the illusion to apparently fall apart when the song ended and his "thank you" didn't come through.

"Zhang Linghe was lip-syncing. You couldn't even hear his final 'thank you'. So awkward," wrote one netizen.

Supporters argued that Linghe's microphone could simply have been switched off immediately after the song ended, which would explain why his "thank you" wasn't heard.

They also circulated footage of Linghe and Ouyang Nana rehearsing the song beforehand.

Fans argued that Linghe's vocals during the televised performance sounded sufficiently similar to his rehearsal vocals, and natural enough, to suggest he had actually been singing live.

And then there were those who took a slightly less scientific approach to defending him.

"I don't know whether he was singing live or lip-syncing, but Zhang Linghe really is handsome," wrote one.

Ummm... That's not exactly evidence for the defense, but okay.

Another fan pointed out that Linghe isn't a professional singer.

"It's such a huge stage and he's not a professional singer. It's understandable if they recorded something beforehand because they were worried something might go wrong," they wrote.

Did he or didn't he? The jury is still out on whether Chinese actor Zhang Linghe lipsynched his debut single 'Saying Hi To You'
