When the urge for Thai food strikes, you can depend on Bangkok Jam to hit all the right spots. Start with Fried Chicken Mid Joints with Thai Fish Sauce Marinade ($10.50), an umami-laden appetiser that’s juicy on the inside, crisp on the outside. The Grilled Marinated Spring Chicken (half $15, whole $23) is another that’s perfect for sharing. If it’s a one-dish meal you’re after, go for the Minced Chicken with Basil ($11.90), which comes with fluffy Thai jasmine rice topped with a fried egg.
HOW EGG-CITING? We bet diners won’t cry fowl with its mighty range of salads, soups, curries and noodles.
Central Hong Kong Café
#B2-01 TEL: 6262 4056
Diners flock here for authentic cha chan teng fare. The Swiss Chicken Wing Noodle ($5.90) has nothing to do with Switzerland and all to do with chicken wings cooked with soy sauce and rock sugar to achieve that sweet (or ‘swiss’, as the Hongkongers pronounce it) and savoury flavour. For comfort food that’s simple but delicious, order the Hong Kong Sausages Fried Egg Rice ($6.90) with two types of preserved sausages and an egg cooked sunny side up, or the Fried Rice with 3-Style Eggs and Silver Fish ($8.90) is concocted with chicken egg, century egg and salted egg.
HOW EGG-CITING? With such varied street food offerings, it’s an egg-cellent pitstop, whether you’re popping in for a snack, a multi-course feast, or to satisfy a dessert craving.
Sun With Moon Japanese Dining & Café
#03-15/16/17 TEL: 6733 6636
Feeling peckish? Make tracks here for the Salmon & Tori Kamameshi ($20.80). Japanese short-grain rice is steamed with grilled salmon, chicken thigh marinated in sweet soy sauce and salmon roe in an iron pot so that it absorbs all the wonderful flavours. Their version of the Caesar salad, the Mizuna Bacon Caesar Salad ($13.80), features a bed of Japanese mustard topped with slabs of thick-cut bacon and a soft-boiled egg. And who can resist the Chawan Mushi ($8.80), a silky steamed egg custard with chicken, prawn, mushroom, chestnut and gingko?
HOW EGG-CITING? The sheer variety of dishes curated from different parts of Japan never fails to tempt. Rice bowls, noodles, premium sushi, steaks… it’s all here!
