Cheng’s cakes are lovingly made by the Cheng family at their family-run zi char restaurant in Tiong Bahru. Each aromatic slice is infused with bits of gula melaka which melt as the cake bakes, perfuming it with its caramelly essence. It’s also made with richly nutty organic coconut oil, coconut milk and a copious amount of cold-pressed pandan juice. Fab flavour, except our cake was too wet, which caused it to be more squishy than fluffy. It was slightly under-baked this time, declared our colleague. Still pretty delicious, though.
