Make Your Own Gula Melaka Quesillo At Home This Hari Raya Puasa
Why pay $10 a slice when you can easily whip up a whole quesillo for your family?
It’s safe to say that quesillo (say “keh-SEE-yoh”) is the breakout star of Ramadan this year. You may have seen it all over your Instagram and TikTok feeds, and at the Ramadan bazaar where we hear it sells for between $7 to $10 per slice. We, too, were taken by this Venezuelan caramel pudding, so we stalked a few recipes online and found that quesillo is pretty easy — and fun — to make at home. Bonus: It costs less than $18 to gather the ingredients for making an eight-inch quesillo (which feeds about eight pax) compared to the $10 per slice. So you can think of it as a money-saving endeavour.
