If Singapore had a national fruit, it would most likely be the durian. On that note, patisserie and cafe Ms Durian is launching three new durian desserts to celebrate National Day: Mao Shan Wang Durian Kaya Toast, Ugly Durian Egg Tart and MSW Durian Kaya Craquelin, the latter a spin on their signature durian cream puffs. The sweets will be available from 1 August to 31 October 2024.

Ms Durian is a cosy cafe at Jalan Besar specialising in durian desserts like Mao Shan Wang cakes, puddings and ice cream. It also serves fresh durians when the fruit is in season, plus a selection of savoury cafe fare like pasta. The homegrown biz is co-owned by baker Ling Goh, 38, and Jeslyn Tan, 23. Ling set up Ms Durian five years ago at a small bakery in Potong Pasir, having learned how to make durian pastries from her dad, who owns a 56-year-old durian business. Jeslyn, a Shatec grad, joined the partnership in 2020, and the duo opened their larger 70-seater Jalan Besar outlet in 2022.

8days.sg samples their limited-edition desserts, which Ling says is made with grade A MSW durians.
