Where To Get Tempura Rice Bowls For Just $5.90
Budget-friendly, fried-to-order tempura on Japanese rice at Natsu.
We don't know many people who can resist a bowl of good tendon (Japanese rice topped with tempura). Seafood or veg cloaked in a light, crispy batter, resting on fluffy, sauce-drizzled rice — what's not to love? Natsu, a local takeaway tendon kiosk at Clementi Mall, offers affordable tempura that’s fried upon order. There are just three options on the compact menu: two rice bowl sets, along with an option to customise your own dish. The cheapest item is the meat-free Tempura & Onsen Set ($5.90), which comes with a wobbly egg, kakiage (chopped veg tempura), French bean and pumpkin tempura on Japanese pearl rice, plus a sesame cucumber salad on the side. For something more substantial, go for the Tempura Signature Set ($6.90), which includes one prawn tempura, kakiage, two capsicum tempura, lotus root chips and garlic edamame. Or customise your own bowl ($2.90 for rice, plus a minimum of one type of tempura and one topping) with any of Natsu’s 10 types of tempura including Japanese Crab Stick ($1.20). Toppings include Crispy Greens with Lemon Zest ($1).
