‘The Worst Dining Experience I Had In M’sia’: YouTuber Slams Uncle Roger’s Restaurant For Slow Service
“If you are going in as a nobody small potato, they won’t give a s***,” alleged foodie influencer Lukian Wang, who waited an hour for her fried rice order.
Uncle Roger should have seen this coming, when he mercilessly roasted Jamie Oliver on his YouTube channel. It’s now his turn to be cooked, after opening his first Uncle Roger’s Restaurant at Kuala Lumpur’s Pavilion KL mall.
Since the restaurant’s launch in September this year, it has gotten mixed reviews from customers. One particularly damning reaction came from YouTuber Lukian Wang, who posts cooking and food review videos under the name Cooking BoBo.

In a Facebook Reels vid that attracted over 1.8 million views, the Hong Kong-based Lukian recounted heading straight to Uncle Roger’s restaurant for her first meal after arriving in Malaysia. “After all, I’m a fan and I like fried rice,” she chirped.
She arrived at the restaurant 40 minutes before its opening time, and saw that there was already a queue waiting outside. In her recount, Lukian said she was “one of the first” customers of the day to be seated.

To her surprise, she found that “half of the menu was already sold out” upon scanning the QR code menu on her phone. Undeterred, she ordered fried rice and a hot lemon tea, and waited “21 minutes” before the beverage was sent to her table.

“Talk about false advertising”
Lukian observed that the orange cup that her lemon tea came in was “cute”, but had just one lemon slice compared to the several slices that was depicted in the menu photo. “Talk about false advertising,” she noted, adding that she “laughed it off at this point, but didn’t realise it was going to get much worse”.

Waited over 50 minutes for fried rice
In her video, Lukian stated that there was still no sign of her fried rice after 50 minutes. “I was so bored, I decided to go live,” she said, live-streaming herself at the restaurant to her followers.

She “made eye contact” with a guy who was in the queue before her, who, like her, was still waiting for his food. She also captured an idle housefly darting around his table. “At least he had better company,” she said sarcastically.
Her fried rice finally arrived, one hour after being seated. “Tears of joy. I was so hungry. So now you know, if you see a queue outside Uncle Roger’s restaurant, it’s not because it’s popular, but because of the slow service,” Lukian said, as she filmed herself tucking into the dish.

Fried rice review
She conceded that the fried rice “looked good”, but teased her followers by musing: “Was the taste worth over an hour’s wait?” (FYI: Uncle Roger said you can bring your own MSG to his restaurants to add to your food.)

Lukian’s video then had a disembodied voice, presumably from a diner at the neighbouring table, asking her: “Are you sure it’s the best fried rice in town?” She giggled and replied: “Probably the best fried rice right now, because I’m so hungry.”
She ended her video by declaring: “There, I said it. Uncle Roger’s fried rice is the best in town, after a 15-hour fast. Needless to say, I won’t be coming back, and I won’t recommend this to anyone who is not a content creator invited by Uncle Roger himself. Because if you watched their videos like I did, they got such good service. But if you’re going in as a nobody small potato, they won’t give a s***.”
What can we say? Haiyahhh.
