Texas Chicken Uses “Real” Salted Duck Egg Yolks In Its New Salted Egg Fried Chicken
This means the fresh stuff from white-shelled eggs common in zi char dishes.
KFC’s had its Goldspice Chicken and McDonald’s the Salted Egg Yolk Loaded Fries and Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Burger. Now, American fast food chain Texas Chicken has shown up to the party with its limited-edition Real Salted Egg Fried Chicken. Why so late? Well, the brand says it took three years to perfect the dish, which it claims boasts a “very authentic taste” and “strong salted egg aroma”.
Just how "real" is it?
And why the emphasis on "real"? It’s not the usual powdered salted yolks (some not even derived from the traditionally salted duck eggs, but instead from cheaper chicken eggs) we hear are commonly used in commercial snacks. Instead, Texas Chicken claims actual salted duck egg yolks fresh from the egg (the white-shelled kind served with Teochew porridge) is mixed into the sauce, together with garlic and chilli powder. The chook is then smothered with this golden gravy, and sprinkled with more salted egg yolk crumbs, breadcrumbs, curry leaves, basil leaves plus chilli flakes. FYI, fresh salted duck eggs are rarely used in commercially produced snacks/dishes because they are costlier and more perishable than the factory-made stuff. Perhaps Texas Chicken can afford to use the real thing because the dish is available for only about a month at its 14 outlets in Singapore.

These “100% fresh” bite-sized chicken morsels are drenched in Texas Chicken’s salted egg sauce, if you prefer your bird boneless.

Double up on the briny flavour with two pieces of Salted Egg Fried Chicken, which come with a side of mashed potato, honey butter biscuit and a regular-sized Sjora Mango Peach drink. The chicken also comes a la carte, as a wallet-friendly single piece (from $3.80 each) if you’re watching your calorie intake.
Real Feast Box, from $17.50
These set meals are for fowl-loving fans. Besides a serving of Real Salted Egg Popcorn Chicken, you get six chicken tenders and eight nuggets, the latter two, however, aren’t cloaked in salted egg sauce.

What to order if you’re feeding a group. Included: eight pieces of Real Salted Egg Fried Chicken, two servings of Salted Egg Popcorn Chicken, four honey butter biscuits, two large mashed potato sides and four regular Sjora Mango Peach drinks.
