Taiwan's Oozy Pillowy Cakes Are Coming To Town
Did someone say cheese?
The hype for oozy food continues, via this castella, a Japanese-style sponge cake. Each large block comes in two flavours for a start (a Chocolate one will be introduced later): the Original ($9.90 each) and the Cheese ($11.90 each, below). But only the latter is stuffed with a layer of cheddar cheese that oozes out when you eat the cake fresh and warm from the oven. Surprisingly, this franchised takeaway shop offering the pillowy treat isn’t from Japan, but Taiwan, where it has a queuing time of up to an hour. So expect a crowd here too, when the shop opens in the first week of May.
