Song Fa Bak Kut Teh is best known for its eponymous, Michelin Bib Gourmand-approved bak kut teh, but come November 12, it’s opening its first offshoot concept, Song Fa Kway Chap, at the new Northshore Plaza mall in Punggol.

Kway chap is the highlight here
The casual 60-seat eatery specialises in the silky Teochew rice noodle sheets (kway), which are served in a bowl of soupy gravy (chap) alongside braised dishes like duck, pork and offal.

The menu
The kway chap is available a la carte or as a set. Prices start from $6 for the Kway Chap Set for 1, which comes with a bowl of kway, braised large intestines and pork belly, plus four other dishes like tau pok and braised egg. A set for two pax costs $11.50.

Bak kut teh-inspired kway chap
While the kway chap gravy is typically more savoury, Song Fa also offers a bak kut teh-inspired Peppery Kway Chap Deluxe Set for 2 in a pepper-spiked broth topped with minced pork. If you like offal, you can also add on side dishes such as Braised Pig’s Stomach ($3), Braised Large Intestines (from $2.80) and Braised Pig’s Skin ($1).
Other braised dishes including Duck Meat ($4.50), Pork Belly ($6) and Song Fa Bak Kut Teh’s signature Braised Pig’s Trotters ($8) are available as a la carte items along with Peppery Kway ($2.50) and Yam Rice ($1.50).

Claypot selection
Besides kway chap, the restaurant also serves a Braised Duck Rice Set ($5.90; $7.20 for a set) with yam rice, as well as communal-style claypot dishes like Claypot Spicy Chicken (pictured, $8.80), Claypot Spicy Pork Ribs ($9.90) and Claypot Sesame Oil Pig’s Liver ($7.50).
