After months of anticipation from its fans, American cult favourite burger chain Five Guys’ first Singapore outlet is finally ready. The self-service joint opens next Monday (December 16), 11am, at Plaza Singapura. But don’t call it fast food — while it serves the burgers, fries and milkshakes that are the backbone of America’s fast food industry, it’s much more gourmet, which is why Five Guys brands itself as a ‘fast-casual’ eatery.

“We don’t have table service, but we cook everything to order, so we’re in between fast food and fine-dining,” explains Danny Lee, Five Guys’ Hong Kong-based vice president of APAC operations. The beef used for the handmade burger patties is fresh, instead of the frozen kind typically used by fast food chains (Five Guys famously boasts that its restaurants have no freezers). The fries are hand-cut from potatoes grown on partnered farms. 8days.sg gets a sneak peek of the new space and food at a media preview. Read on for the deets.
