S’pore Bubble Tea Shop Sells “Menstrual” Milk Tea That Apparently Relieves Period Cramps
When it’s that time of the month, ladies usually avoid cold drinks like bubble tea that supposedly worsen stomach cramps. But here’s a version that apparently helps “ease menstrual discomfort”: local bubble tea chain Yan Xi Tang’s new Redtide Relief Tea Series.

It was launched in September and features two drinks, both served warm: the Red Sugar Menstrual Ginger Milk Tea ($5) and Red Sugar Menstrual Ginger Infusion ($5). They star goji berries, red dates, ginger, brown sugar and dried rose petals - and in case you were wondering, yes, you can add pearls.
The milk tea version is served with antioxidant-rich Ceylon red tea, though customers can swap it out for a tea of their choice, like green tea. Meanwhile, the dairy-free Red Sugar Menstrual Ginger variation is served without tea — the base is ginger water.
Yan Xi Tang owner, Clement Tan, 34, tells 8days.sg that he got the idea to create this series because his “wife wanted to drink a period relief drink”, so he made it for her, “then all her colleagues started asking about it”.
This is not the first time Yan Xi Tang has introduced a quirky drink to their menu. The brand went semi-viral in June for selling “bamboo tube milk tea”, where bubble tea was served in traditional bamboo cups.
While their bamboo tea was only available for a limited time, the Redtide Relief series is a permanent addition to the menu.
