Siblings Quit Their Six-Figure Corporate Jobs To Revive Their Parents’ Cai Png Biz

Once known simply as “the cai png at Tampines Street 22, Block 280”, the beloved stall lives on as Curry Kong — revived 11 years later by the hawker-owners’ children after they quit corporate life.

When siblings Tay Jia Ling, 35, and Tay Jia Han, 37, left their corporate jobs within months of each other, starting a business together wasn’t part of the plan.

But one idea led to another and soon, the pair found themselves reviving their parents’ old cai png recipes under a new name: Curry Kong, a home-based brand that’s already gaining a loyal following.

Plans to open a physical store

The siblings are already planning ahead.

“We’re looking at Q3 or Q4 next year to open our first physical store,” Jia Ling reveals. “We're trying to find a location in the East because our home is at Pasir Ris. The majority of our existing customers are Easties, so we want to find an area where we can get footfall and still be able to serve our existing customers.”

Curry Kong is available for delivery or pick-up at Pasir Ris Street 21, Block 217, #10-144, S510217. Open daily 11.30am-11.30pm. More info via website or Instagram
