If you’ve seen “Curry Puff Uncle” on TikTok or Instagram Reels, it might surprise you to know that the man in the videos – Kelvin Ng – is actually an introvert. “I need to drink some beer before filming!” quips the 49-year-old.

Despite what he says, Kelvin comes across as warm, albeit endearingly awkward, on camera. In the clips, the self-declared “uncle” is often seen introducing his curry puffs and chatting with customers, with some videos racking up over 40K views.

Kelvin and his wife Veron, 47, started making curry puffs at home in 2020, during the pandemic. Kelvin, a longtime fan of curry puffs with no cooking experience, asked Veron – an avid baker – to try making their own version. He wanted something with generous filling and a crust that wasn’t “too thick and dry.”

With his neatly cropped silver hair and low-key charm, Kelvin has become the unexpectedly endearing face of the brand. In some videos, he even dons a plush curry puff headband – proving he’s not above a little prop humour to entertain viewers.
