8 Must-Eats At Sentosa GrillFest Including Bourbon Coke-Marinated Striploin & Wok Hei-Laden Hokkien Mee

Plus, other gastronomic events to check out like the Sentosa Restaurant Trail, Food Truck Fiesta and Craft Beer Jamboree, all part of the inaugural Sentosa Food Fest.
Sentosa is celebrating all things yummy with its inaugural island-wide Sentosa Food Fest, held in conjunction with its Golden Jubilee. From now till Dec 31, you can enjoy a variety of gastronomic experiences such as beachside barbecues to food truck treats and craft beer parties. First up is the massively popular Sentosa GrillFest (ends Nov 13), followed by the Sentosa Restaurant Trail (Nov 7 to Nov 17), Sentosa Food Truck Fiesta (Nov 18 to Nov 27) and Craft Beer Jamboree (Nov 25 to Dec 4).

More than 200 F&B offerings at Sentosa GrillFest

Back with a bang after three years, the Sentosa GrillFest is the largest one to date featuring 31 F&B vendors and over 200 offerings. The stretch from Wings of Time forecourt to Scentopia on Siloso Beach (nearest train station and car park at Beach Station) has been transformed into a BBQ beach carnival, with fairy lights and amazing smells of BBQ meat and seafood wafting by. 

Order your faves and eat them at the tables set up along the road (which has been closed for the event), at the sheltered Emerald Pavilion, or right there on colourful tables on the beach, while listening to the sound of the waves. Choose from four grilling zones:

-       Just Grill: Helmed by grocer and wholesaler Angliss, you can choose your meat and watch it grilled right on the beach.

-       Greatest Hits: GrillFest's past favourites and new vendors dish up smoky delights along the main stretch of the festival.

-       Local Flavours: Traditional and authentic tastes by Mount Faber Leisure and grilled meats at Woodfire Feast at the new Central Beach Bazaar, opposite the Wings of Time.

-       Chill Out: Relax over craft beer, artisanal ice cream and live music at Emerald Pavilion.

#1: Grilled Oysters by Slurp Your Oysters, $4.50 each

Grilled just enough so these natural aphrodisiacs remain juicy, not rubbery, you can have yours topped with the OG fave Cheesy Lemon Garlic Butter sauce, but we prefer the Spicy Chorizo Butter with Scallions which has a little more kick. Raw oysters, with your choice of four “naughty sauces” including an interesting Pickled Dill Cucumber (from $13 for 3 pieces), and a Cornmeal Fried Oyster with Spicy Hollandaise ($18 per bowl), are also available.

#2: Charcoal Grilled Bourbon Coke Striploin by Homeground Grill & Bar, $18 (Returning fave!)

Head Chef Nellie Tan created the Charcoal Grilled Bourbon Coke Striploin specially for the GrillFest. Striploin marinated with Bourbon Coke for a slightly sweet flavour that sears beautifully on the outside, while remaining pink inside. We enjoyed this so much, we returned for their Charcoal Grilled Pork Belly ($13) and Charcoal Grilled Barramundi Butterfly ($23). Yums with their signature sour and spicy garlic chilli sauce.

#3: Ayam Percik set by Pergh!Chicks, $14

Owner-chef Afiq Irwan, who runs two Pergh!Chicks outlets at Jurong West and Bali Lane, is excited to debut his original Malaysian recipe to a new audience of tourists and locals at GrillFest. Check out his festival special, the nicely spiced Ayam Percik set which comes with a huge, juicy charcoal-grilled whole chicken leg (his stores only serve boneless chicken chop and wings), corn rice and achar. Also available in Honey flavour. Both sedap.

#4: Grilled 'Cubano' Iberian Pork Taco by Wild Tide, $14 for one; $25 for two

Don’t want to fill up on too much carbo? This taco, with its grilled Iberico pork, Swiss cheese, red onion, cilantro, pickles, and drizzled with Chipotle mayo to add a little fire, hits the spot. We haven't tried their BBQ Slipper Lobster Al Pastor yet but the crustacean served with salsa verde, soft grilled pitas and pineapple, butterhead lettuce, pickles and lemon looks and sounds good.

#5: Prawn Hokkien Noodles by Hawker’s Traditions, $13.80 (Returning fave!)

Cooked over a charcoal stove for that wok hei, this hawker fave, simmered in prawn broth, also features squid, fish cake and a tongue-tinglingly shiok sambal belachan. Feeling indulgent? Go for the Lobster Hokkien Mee ($19.80).

#6: Laksa Seafood Pasta with Clams by Big O, $16

This fusion dish of pasta and clams, smothered in a house-made laksa sauce, is wrapped in an aluminum pouch to seal in all the flavours before it is popped on top of the grill. The pasta is al dente enough and we slurped up all the addictive gravy off the clam shells. For a veggie treat, we love their giant grilled portobello mushroom topped with Salsa Aubergine ($12).

#7: Lychee Pale Ale by Sentosa x Brewerkz, $15

Wash down all that BBQ with the limited-edition Lychee Pale Ale, specially presented in two designs to celebrate Sentosa’s Golden Jubilee. We’re not huge fans of beer but we downed a can of this deliciously fruity ale, enjoying the fragrance of lychee in every sip.

#8: Premium Nuts & Fruits Coconut Ice cream + free Coconut Water by Co+Nut+Ink, $7.50

Save some tummy room for this award-winning ice cream, topped with healthy nuts and fruit and served in a coconut husk. We love that we also get a small cup of complimentary coconut water to cool down after our grilled meat feast.

Besides the Sentosa GrillFest, Sentosa has also introduced the inaugural Sentosa Restaurant Trail, which offers you more bang for your buck with specially-curated fixed-price lunch and dinner set menus. Diners can choose from 17 popular and picturesque venues across the island, including beach clubs and waterfront restaurants. The exciting menus range from Cali-Italian and Pan-Asia, to Hawaiian and Cantonese. Lunch set menus cost $30++ or $50++, while dinner set menus are at $50++ or $80++. Here are three of the set menus from the wide array available, that you can enjoy at the Sentosa Restaurant Trail.  

Siloso Beach Resort, $30++ for a four-course set menu

Enjoy an alfresco dining experience featuring delicacies prepared with herbs from the resort’s own garden. Start with their hearty tomato herb soup and garden salad. For mains, choose from Yin & Yang chicken (a mix grilled and fried boneless chicken leg marinated with organic herb); their Mix Grilled Seafood, or a Spaghetti Vegetriana. End on a sweet note with the Strawberry Panna Cotta and coffee, tea or a juice.

Bedrock Origin, $50++ for three-course set lunch

For your starter, choose between the Truffle Mushroom Soup and Chargrilled Baby Gem. Main options include a woodfire-grilled Ribeye Steak, Glazed Lamb Ribs Rice Bowl and Signature Bedrock Black Pepper Steak Rice Bowl. Select your dessert from the ice cream of the day, burnt cheesecake and Salted Caramel Lava Cake.

FOC Sentosa, $80++ for 4-course set menu

Start your amazing Mediterranean dining experience with the Smoked Mackerel and Potato Salad (pictured above), one of three yummy options. Next, choose your starter from FOC Potato Churros, Prawns "Al Ajillo" and more. Then select your choice of paella from two styles: Mediterranean Squid Ink with prawns and scallops, or the Iberico Pork with Ibérico Secreto & ‘Butifarra’ Sausage. Finish off with a Molten Chocolate Cake with Salted Caramel ice cream for that sweet ending.
