The Italian restaurant, which is well-loved for its comforting nonna-style fare like house-made pasta, was opened by chef-owner Valentino Valtulina, 49.
He operated his family-run restaurant in a residential neighbourhood at Rifle Range Road before moving to The Grandstand, which has been earmarked to make way for housing redevelopment.
Through the years, he has served many famous people like Lee Kuan Yew, the King and Queen of Bhutan (who celebrated Valentine’s Day at Valentino), as well as Fann Wong, Jeanette Aw and Elvin Ng.

Restaurant fully booked till closing day
In an interview with 8days.sg last month, the Milanese chef shares that his restaurant is already fully booked for its final week of operations. “We’ll try to accommodate as many people as possible but we won’t be adding more seats,” he says.
Well, it looks like those who want to try Valentino’s food for the first or last time will have to wait till the chef opens his comeback eatery (hopefully). He tells us: “We are super full and we stopped taking reservations and takeaway orders.”
And nope, you probably can’t even spam the restaurant with phone calls every day hoping to take over somebody’s table cancellation. Customers who call the restaurant’s phone will likely have their call unanswered, and SMS reservations — along with the restaurant’s website — are also now unavailable.
According to chef Valentino, cancellations are unlikely as he says: “For groups of above six people, we take a deposit.”

May reopen in the future
But chef Valentino reckons that he is “not leaving forever”, as he shares: “We’re just taking a break and maybe we’ll come back with something exciting, but at this point I can't confirm anything.”
