Oreo Mooncake Taste Test: Nice Or Not?

Looks like a classic Oreo, kinda tastes like a classic Oreo. The bulk of this mooncake is filled with a chocolatey paste with hints of the cocoa flavour found in Oreo's choc wafer biscuits. However, in the centre sits a core of traditional lotus seed paste. The combination is too sweet and jarring. And it doesn't help that the doughy pastry skin covering this is largely tasteless.

A milk-flavoured skin reminiscent of White Rabbit candy envelops lotus seed paste and a chocolate paste centre. We taste more of the milk and lotus here — it's a more palatable pairing than the odd brownie-lotus flavour.

Our fave of the lot. The pineapple jam in the centre is quite fragrant and almost pineapple tart-worthy. Meanwhile the lotus paste filling is studded with crunchy slices of watermelon seeds, and compliments the custard-flavoured skin. We like that this is the least sugary option in the box.

Pretty pink hue aside, this is sickly sweet — the jammy centre tastes a lot like a strawberry lollipop. Needless to say, it clashes spectacularly with the sugary lotus paste. Skip.

Makes for a cute gift — if the recipient is a child, or someone with an extremely sweet tooth. To put it plainly: this looks better than it tastes.
