$61 Mud Crab, Boston Lobster & Soon Hock Deals For National Day At Orchid Live Seafood

Crab lovers get the biggest bang for their buck during this promo. Weighing between 900g and 1kg each, the Mud Crab usually costs $98 per kg, so diners can save up to $37 during the $61 promotion.

Enjoy it cooked with chilli gravy, pepper, cream cheese or salted egg with pumpkin sauce. Our food editor tried the chilli crab and rather enjoyed its punchy citrusy flavours. Her only grouse? The sauce was a little too starchy.

The Boston Lobster on offer weighs approximately 500g and is normally priced at $88 each. It is available in similar cooking styles as the crab, along with this platter of garlic butter mushroom steamed with vermicelli. The glass noodles beneath the lobster soaked up its umami juices and the buttery sauce nicely, declared our food ed.

Yummy fried soon hock

This 800g to 900g Soon Hock was our colleague’s favourite seafood dish during her tasting. Normally priced at $9 per 100g, the fish would typically set you back between $72 and $81. Also known as marble goby, it is prized for its tender, sweet flesh and smooth texture. This specimen was perfectly fried till crisp and wasn’t soaked in grease, says our ed.

Free old-school popsicles

There is also a sweet freebie to round off the meal.

During this promo period, dine-in customers at both outlets can redeem a complimentary old-school popsicle while stocks last. They come in rotating flavours like grape and strawberry.

Guests dining at HomeTeamNS Khatib can collect theirs from a limited-time popsicle cart decked out in National Day colours.

For something less extravagant, try the eatery’s signature Steven Chicken (from $16), named after founding chef Steven Chua, who created the dish in 1999. The drumettes are shaped like lollipops, deep-fried, then coated in a sweet-savoury sauce and toasted sesame seeds. Our colleague found it pretty addictive.
