Online Durian Purchases Gone Wrong — Complaints Include “Frozen Crap”

It’s durian season now — to keep up with the times, fruit sellers are selling their wares online. And what you get may depend on your luck, since you can’t physically inspect the durians before you splurge. We’ve seen our friends, family and colleagues post their spoils on social media, while popular local Facebook group Durian and Friends also has some 18,000 durian-loving members who share lobangs and battle stories of buying the pongy fruit.

While the group has reported mostly positive experiences with good loots and pleasant service, there are also some less than stellar accounts. Of course, durian being a fruit means its quality is unpredictable (supply for certain varieties like Mao Shan Wang has also been affected in recent months due to heavy torrential rains in Pahang, where farms for higher grade MSWs are typically located). Or sometimes, you may kena a seller who’s just having a bad day.

Nonetheless, below are some cautionary tales from netizens who have bought duds (P.S. To make an informed purchase the next time your durian craving strikes, check out our ranking of 10 popular durian stalls).
